A little sense of intrigue descends on SIHH this week…

Called Frosted Gold, its case is made by an old Florentine technique of hammering gold that creates a glint almost like diamonds. It is the hallmark of London-based, Florence-born jewellery designer Carolina Bucci, who already owned a vintage yellow gold Royal Oak when she met socially AP’s CEO François Bennahmias and they decided to work on a project together. She sent her craftsmen to AP in Le Brassus in Switzerland to teach their technicians the craft – they then worked out a way to create the case and bracelet in the technique and the watch is available to order as from now.

This is the first time AP has worked with an outside collaborator yet Bucci’s name has somehow disappeared from this very beautiful object. Strange things happen in the Swiss watch world but the piece is a testament to both Audemars Piguet’s vision and Bucci’s inherited craft.
