“I just though they were spectacular,” said Charlize Theron on the red carpet at the Oscars, as she toyed with the enormous Chopard Garden of Kalahari earrings hanging from her lobes. With a 25ct pear-shaped diamond on one side and a 26ct heart-shaped diamond on the other, these were some of the largest diamonds on the red carpet at the 89th Academy Awards, but they were certainly not the only ones.

The classic dazzle os white diamonds dominated red carpet looks, and many stars choose to make a jewellery statement with large diamond earrings. Best Actress Emma Stone picked up her award wearing a pair of ‘Whispers of the Rainforest’ diamond earrings from Tiffany &Co.‘s Blue Book, while supermodel Chrissy Teigen’s Lorraine Schwartz earrings draped tassels of diamonds all the way to her shoulders. Jennifer Anniston joined Theron in super sizing the carat count at the Oscars, with a long pair of 100ct diamond earrings by Lorraine Schwartz.

At the legendary Vanity Fair after Party Frida Pinto amped up the sparkle of a glittery blue Elie Saab dress with long geometric diamond earrings by Hearts on Fire. Diane Kruger also adopted the long and lean look with Flapper earrings by Messika with long, cascading strips of diamonds – matched to a revealing Alexander Vauthier silver satin dress.

Necklines were also afire with diamonds at the Oscars – the other key jewellery trend from the night. Karlie Kloss wore an enormous Mughal diamond choker by Nirav Modi (which also dressed Taraji P. Henson in its vast Luminance diamonds necklace). Dakota Johnson made a quirky choice, slipping on a vintage Cartier diamond necklace over a high-necked yellow satin gown by Gucci, while Kirsten Dunst dressed up a bare neckline with a Niwaka necklace that laid swirls of diamonds along her collarbone.

Alicia Vikander turned to Bulgari for some classic Italian sparkle, with an all-white diamond Diva’s Dream necklace. The Hills star Kristin Cavallari, who reported form the Oscars red carpet for E!, also opted for Italian jewels, setting off a strapless floor-length red gown by Zachary The Label with a floral-inspired diamond collier by Pasquale Bruni. Though a crying emoji posted to Cavallari’s Instagram account later revealed that the diamonds were quickly swiped from her as soon as her television spot ended – proof that even the most sparkling of nights must, at some point, come to an end.
